Darlington, Nov 7 - heart disease was the cause of the death here at two this morning of John P. Henry, who had lived here for a number of years, and who was at one time one of the prominent bridge carpenters of this district. He was 84 years of age. Mr. Henry had been well and had been down town, where he discussed the political activities of Tuesday with friends. He had the asthma, however, and was hoarse. He retired at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Metta Martin, but during the night he called out and the family went to him to find him gasping for breath. He died soon after. Mr. Henry was born in Ohio in 1830 and was for two years a member of the 53rd Ohio Regiment Later he took up the bridge carpenter trade, and during his occupation as a contractor, he had charge of the building of all the bridges on the Vandalia RR between Rockville and Logansport. He had lived of late at Thorntown, but was staying with his daughter here when death occurred He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Metta Martin and Mrs. Albert Cox of this city; Robert Henry and Mrs. Fanny Shepherd of Galion Ohio; Mrs. Lizzie Howard, Cary, Ohio; Almar Henry of Bloomington; HA Henry, Mrs. Zeruah Smith; Charles O. Henry and John H. Henry of Thorntown and George Henry of Alexandria, ND. There are also many grandchildren and great grandchildren to survive. - kbz
